The Comfort of Discomfort

Change can be hard. When you're faced with a change you know you should make, it is easy to shrug it off, slide into autopilot, and remain with your familiar discomfort. You've lived with it long enough that it's become... well... comfortable.

It's funny how we can fear the hard work that change may require. We can even imagine ourselves encountering failure or embarassment if we take a risk and attempt a change like a new job. We fear we might not be good enough. The fear of failure, rejection, and loss are very real at the threshold of change.

The flip side is, as my friend Erin put it, "What if things change and I like it?" What if life gets better? What if the risk you take actually works?

Take a quick look at some of the discomforts with which you've become comfortable. Maybe the if you take the risk of a new change you will actually like the results!
