Sudden Moves

You learn that you have to vacate your residence in two weeks. What do you do first?

It's surprising how a sudden dividing line thrusts you into decisive action. When your time is limited, your values jump to the forefront.

So you have two weeks to move:
  • First, shed baggage and dead weight. Get rid of trash, and all items that really didn't matter, have no value to you, or are very easily replaced.
  • Second, determine which items need special attention or care, and make sure you can meet those needs in the time frame you have.
  • Third, with the time you have left, organize the rest of your possessions into groups, packing up the first priority items first so that if you do run out of time, the items that get thrown in at the last minute are the least important to you.
For the next two weeks, our house will be in a state of determining what's most important. Our youngest is leaving early. Much earlier than anticipated. She will move near her university to work for the summer. So all my plans for the summer just got condensed into two weeks. I only have two weeks to teach, train, encourage, shop, spend time before she leaves.

So I'll figure out what's the most important thing to do with the time I have, and the rest gets pitched. It's dead weight.

Do you have any dead weight that needs to be pitched?
